Concerts and Wine at Nissley's Winery

Nissley Winery is fairly renowned around Central PA for their lawn concert series throughout the summer.  This group has never gone to one and I have gotten a ton of requests so here it is!

A band called The SilverHawks will be playing August 9th, they are described as a classic rock, soul and Motown band.  All additional information about them, parking, where we will sit, what's available to eat/drink is at the website below.

http://www.nissleywine.com/lawn_concerts.htm

The concert starts at 7:30  and last until 10 but they recommend that people start arriving anytime after 6.  Tickets are available for purchase at the door for $15 - credit cards and out of state checks are not accepted at the admissions tent - i'm planning to bring cash just to be safe.  Lastly, if you are going to be later than 7:30, I will have to register you at the Will Call table, I can't wait there and hand you a ticket.  please let me know if that will be the case.

They have concessions there but I am thinking that we bring blankets, folding chairs and picnic baskets for ourselves.  We cannot bring in any other alcoholic beverages (or "non-alcoholic look alikes"....i'm guessing that's sparkling grape juice??) onto their property but all of their wines will be available for purchase in the wine bar and wine shop.  I think it would be fun for us to bring cards/games to play while we are waiting for the concert to start - if you want to bring one, post it as a comment so we can try to avoid duplicates!  Additionally we are allowed to bring candles if we want to see after the sun goes down.

We will meet at the entrance of the winery at 6pm so we can get a good place on the lawn for our blankets/chairs.  hopefully we have great weather!

Yes, a flare gun would light things up... It would probably lure in the National Guard...

I used my tracking instinctive scent to find all the single women... That's how I found my group...

Bev & I looked for the group but we couldn't locate any of you. [amongst the 12,000 people!] No sweat it was a good time and perfect weather. Maybe next time shoot a flare gun off!

Nice place, good band, and good food at the picnic food tent, but I almost wound up sitting by myself. This was a hard for a group outing to meet at the venue. It had multiple entry points, was outdoors, and had many hundreds of people attending, plus our group may not have seen each other before. Meetup has a way to for organizers to print off signs and nametags with its logo on it. We need to use this feature and other ways to mark attendees to recognize each other and avoid mass confusion again. That would mean the leader has to be there early (first) to mark our spot and attendees.

Great, Erin! See you soon :(

    August 4

  • Barbie

Looking forward to this, Erica! I've gone to Nissley before when the Silverhawks were there. If it's a nice night, it will get crowded and you may have to park a good distance away if you are late- so best to arrive as early as possible if you are carrying chairs, etc. They let people in as early as 5:00, I believe, altho it's not publicized. Also, a folding table for food to share is a good idea if someone has one. And candles, flashlight and bug spray. Fingers crossed for good weather :)

    August 4

    • Erin

Yeah! Going to be a fun time, see you there Barbie!

      August 4

  • Jo A.

I've been to a few of their concerts and it's amazing to see how people set up with linens, tables, candles, lights in the trees and food! It's a beautiful site!
JoAnn Angstadt's idea of bring picnic food to share is a great idea. We could bring cocktail meatballs and rolls.

I've been there for concert, the earlier the better as it gets really crowded. I agree it's best to bring your own picnic food and to share. They have a small area for dancing so that is fun also.
