Who will brave the early morning cold and come out to witness the granddaddy event of 2013? If you are brave, or crazy enough, who wants to take the plunge into the crowds? If you do, you will be rewarded with an experience that comes but once a year, seen around the globe and witness an All-American tradition. It's the Rose Parade!
I'll be going early to the staging area to capture the pre-parade activities. Can you say early bird?
If you can't get up that early, you can always catch the floats along the parade route or at the end of the parade. Whichever option you choose, be prepared for crowds. The location where we will meet will be emailed later. Be prepared to use a zoom, as this is a dynamic, constantly moving event. Be prepared for anything. If you plan on moving around, dress for warmth and comfort, and wear good walking shoes. If you plan on buying a ticket at one of the many grand stands, prepare to pay at least $100. Parking? Along the parade route you will need to be prepared to pay up to 5 times the normal price, if you're lucky!
Here's a sneak peak of one float:

As parking is expensive, I would strongly suggest taking the Metro Gold line down to the Holly St station. It is only a couple of short blocks to Colorado Blvd.
UPDATE (12.27.12)
Here is a link for parking in Pasadena for the day of the parade in case anyone is planning to go by car: http://southpasadena.patch.com/articles/rose-parade-parking-all-you-need-to-know?ncid=newsltuspatc00000001
I also read that there will be a parking citation moratorium for those cars that are legally parked and stay overnight until January 2. Please read the link for further details.
Hi everyone! Happy new year to all! I didnt sign up for this meetup and I wasn't able to go to the parade, but I went to the float and display to shoot the floats. Would it be ok to share some pics here? All the pics are up on my FB...

Security is tight. No pass, no entry within a block of orange grove. If you're trying for a closer location, I suggest going further south of Colorado.

Hey guys, I meant to offer this earlier, but live a block away from Colorado, on Holliston. Sometime ago Erik and I was talking of using my space for this event, as holding. I live on Holliston? What do you guys think?
December 27
Teresa, do you mean I couldn't see the float at the Rose Bowel tomorrow,Dec 31,2012,please advise!
December 30
There are two Pasadena locations where you can purchase tickets to see the final construction of floats: 700 Seco St (across from Rosé Bowl) and 835 S. Raymond Avenue (a couple of blocks south of California near Huntington Memorial Hospital). Cost is $10 to see floats in two buildings and a large tent. You will see about 35 floats and several vintage vehicles. For more info, see www.tournamentofroses.com.
December 31
Hope to catch up with folks some time during the day; have a ticket for a seat and will be up early for parking.
December 29
I haven't signed up for the event but I'll be at the end, by Sierra Madre and Orange Grove, with my daughter and parents. Remember if you go that way you don't have to get there so early and there is usually street parking in the Hastings Ranch area ~1 mile away.
December 28
there is no extra parking in my building, there is a Union street next door, that usually have parking space, but this day it might be packed, so as Eric suggesting, you can park at the at the parking lot by the golden metro.
December 28
Ok, so I think I ran into some of you at the last meetup but it was dark and I don't see too well at night (lol). Thank God this one will be a day shoot. I know this event will have a smorgasboard of stuff to shoot, but I'd really love to meet at least a few of you and shake your hand. Yep, i may look like a tourist with my camera around my neck, but I don't bite. Thanks :)
December 27
May be some one live near by Colorado Blvd can/willing to let us use his or her place as a 'home base ' meet over there first [early hours] before the event start. Anyone ?
