Let's meet up and go to the Merchant's House Museum!

  • January 30, 2014 · 3:00 PM

The mMerchant's House Museum is a former home from the late 18th and early 19th century. It's always rumored to be very, very haunted. In fact, the whole area near it is rumored to be among one of the most haunted places in New York City.
The house tour is very nice and there's often some special exhibit. This is a wonderful little gem of a museum. It will soon be decorated for the winter holidays.

I'm deeply sorry I couldn't show up, I was delayed. A very important relative of mine was coming to visit, I had to be well prepared for his arrival. That's why I couldn't go downtown. I think having a meetup on a weekend would be a good idea from now on.

    Better luck next meetup.

It would be nice to meet some of you, especially in the Village, walk around, and then go to one of the old Italian coffee houses to discuss New York's gothic Victorian heritage.

Hi. Work has been interfering with my going on outings, but since the turning of the year will soon be upon us, I'd like to make some suggestions. Green-Wood Cemetery has bus tours all year long, including in winter. The Cloisters has the Unicorn Tapestries. The house that belonged to Clement C. Moore, the man who wrote 'A Visit from St. Nicholas', in in the West Village. The very Gothic and spooky Ballantine House, part of the extremely accessible Newark Museum, is gorgeous. Trinity Church near Wall Street is also haunted, and holds the body of numerous founding fathers. There's also St. Mark's in the Bowery, which is haunted by Petrus Stuyvesant, the founder of Nieuw Amsterdam. As many of you probably know, City Hall Park and Washington Park are also very Goth and very haunted. Washington Park actually sits on a graveyard, and is right by a street that is supposedly haunted by people who died during the Civil War Draft Riots.
