This meetup aims to be a "gaming clearinghouse" of sorts: We want to connect players to games and games to players. To that end, we want to create and maintain meetings that get roleplayers together, trying different games and meeting different people.
What sorts of meetings are we doing? I’m focusing primarily on “convention-style” one-shot games and social get-togethers. I want to promote meetings that get people in the same room, talking about the games they’re running or playing, networking, and forming new groups (or adding to existing ones). I want to do meetings that are open to all, that get you playing a game you might otherwise never have tried, or talking to someone you might otherwise never have met. And while I try to set up meetings like this myself, I encourage you to suggest similar meetings.
Right now, our focus is on face-to-face roleplaying games. So, I'm not really looking for meetings pertaining to board games, card games, video games, or minis. There are, of course, gray areas; World of Warcraft or DDO players might want to schedule game nights or try to get together with more players, but those don't really revolve around face-to-face gaming. LARPs, on the other hand, would be perfectly acceptable; while they're not traditional "tabletop" games as such, they do get people in the same room (or, at least, the same general area), playing the same game. When in doubt, feel free to ask.
Also, I don’t normally schedule home campaigns as meetings. While I want you to promote your home games through the message boards and mailing list, I want the focus of our meetings to be finding new players (or GMs) and putting together new campaigns, broadening our personal “gamer networks.” I tend to feel that scheduling home games as meetings discourages this idea, as home games tend to be “pre-stocked” with a GM and players, and not exactly something that everyone can participate in. Think of our information motto as “games for the gameless,” finding seats for players (or players for GMs) that are currently without.
