Paddle Lake Blalock-Note Time Change!

Let's avoid the weekend boat traffic on the larger lakes. Lake Blalock is just east of Spartanburg, off of Hwy 221. The northern section of the lake is formed by the Pacolet River and is mostly wilderness, with very little boat traffic (and a 30 HP motor limit).

We expect to split into two groups to accommodate kayaks of different lengths/speed. The faster boats will make an approx. 10 mi. round trip, and another group is expected to paddle approx. 5 to 6 miles.

We will meet at Noon and launch by 12:30 pm. Bring water, lunch or a snack, though there are few opportunities to get out of the boat. There are restrooms at the launch.

Please allow time to purchase a permit at the office for $5 (good for one year). Whistle and PFD, worn properly zipped up are required. This is a meetup, and you are responsible for your own safety.

Excellent! Perfect day, good fellowship, quiet water, and lots of birds. Thanks to all.

That gives us time to go check out the REI Garage sale at 9am!

Hi Gail. We'd love to have you join us, but unless another paddle boarder signs up, you might be left behind, since your board would undoubtedly be much slower. You might want to think about borrowing or renting a kayak--preferably a touring boat.

This sounds like fun. I will leave extra early to be sure to get there. It is just over a hundred miles for me!
