Pt Reyes Arch Rock Loop Hike

The Hike: Pt Reyes Arch Rock Loop. Wittenburg Trail to Sky Trail to Arch Rock. Return on Bear Valley Trail.

This is a beautiful loop of about 11 miles covering the best of the varied landscape in Pt-Reyes. It also offers cool breeze and mild weather regardless of heat further inland. This loop stars out at the visitors center, quickly diverts from the main trail and heads up the trail less traveled. This trail (Mt Wittenberg Tr.) creates the only moderate challenge by climbing 1000+ ft in 2 miles. Luckily, shade is provided for the ascent by old growth Doug Fir, Redwoods, and Bay.

Near the top, the forest parts and you are greeted by sweeping views with the ocean in the distance. From the peak we take Sky Trail, slowly descending upon the ocean through a mix of shade and open views.

The top of Arch Rock provides a great spot to sit and absorb the views.

If it is warm, we can collect ourselves under the shade and cool of the arch itself while sinking bare feet in the sand or creek.

After a break, Bear Valley Trail provides a relaxing easy way back to the visitor’s center where forest cover again provides welcomed shade.

Sorry Mike, dogs are not allowed by Pt Reyes Nat Seashore on any of the trails. They are pretty much limited to a couple of beaches and Bolinas Ridge Trail in Golden Gate Nat. Rec Area. http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/upload/map_dogareas.pdf
