The Swinging Bridge

The Swinging Bridge near Blue Ridge/Route 60 is one of the largest suspension bridges east of the Mississippi - yet is in the middle of the woods and is for hikers only!

We'll park at the nearest trailhead, then hike the bridge and parts of the Duncan Ridge and other trails. Total mileage will be about eight miles (more available if the group wants to do it!). No special equipment is needed, but do bring hiking shoes, lunch, water, some snacks, and some stories to share! Level/Pace is intermediate, so experienced hikers only for this trip. And as Steve and others always request: no pets or children please.

Meeting Times/Places: Meet at the trailhead, which is basically where you see the cars parked when the forest service road ends. Final details - including carpool info - to be posted here and via email the Friday before the event. For planning purposes, expect to be back in the Atlanta area sometime around 6pm. See you on the trail!

Carpool Options - Updated On 11/8 I will run one carpool. Please meet at the parking lot of Best Buy on Haynes Bridge Rd and Exit 9 off of 400 at 9:15am (we will leave promptly at 9:30am). I have a white Toyota Sequoia and will meet you in the parking lot on the left hand side of the store. Please send me an eMail by Saturday night to let me know you want to carpool with me. BTW, please make sure to bring some water, lunch, and snacks, as well as a towel and shirt change for the ride home.

Nice hike. Sorry we missed the group but we hiked from the trail head where the BMT crosses Hwy 60. 3 miles in then out. A great group of hikers. Charlie B, don't mark me a no show, just mark me showed up at different location. lol

I don't know if the true path would have needed hiking poles for me. What little I saw ofit was fine and easy and didn't seem to need them. I'll probably bring mine every time from here on out just in case because of my small feet.

Was there as well. Thanks for the help Steve. I got there via walking the dirt path and then hitching a ride on it. That was after sliding up and down the mountain. I think I saw your Toyota on the dirt road near the bridge, Charlie. I planned for flat and long, but no one in my group wanted to take the dirt road. I have small feet and slide easily and often. Also have RA with constant pain. Had a great time once I got back to the dirt path and took it. Si

Anybody leaving from the Gwinnett or Hall county areas that is looking to carpool there?

I'm at Taco Mac. It's closer to Belk than Nordstom's.

Hi Dina, Sharon, I believe I am attending but I will be sure about it tomorrow Saturday. I will be going to Amicalola Falls in the morning (Saturday) and if my body can handle it, I will be going there Sunday. I will be going up 575 and we could meet at Target, if it is okay, that is located just at exit 7, highway 92.

Hello other carpoolers. I live just south of Dahlonega so if anyone is driving through Dahlonega, specifically on Hwy 60, since the bridge is located there, I'd like to be a fifth wheel. Let me know at[masked]-1217. Thanks
