Three Forks

About The Trail: This is an easy yet scenic loop trail covering about eight miles in the Blue Ridge Mountains. No special equipment is needed, but do bring hiking shoes, lunch, water, some snacks, and some stories to share! Level/Pace is intermediate (meaning you can walk at 3 miles an hour and not hold the group up), so experienced hikers only for this trip. And as Steve and others always request: no kids or pets please.

Notes: Budget about three hours for this hike. Distance = eight miles. Rating = easy. Please bring water and a snack or lunch. No water crossings. No special equipment needed.

Where To Meet: Please meet at the trailhead, which is on FS 58 halfway up the mountain between Doublehead Gap and FS 42. Please note that the trailhead is where the Appalachian Trail crosses FS 58.

Carpool Info: I will run one carpool from Alpharetta. Please send me an email that you would like to ride with me by Saturday night before the event so I can reserve your spot. FYI, your email let's me know you are coming and gives me a headcount so I'll know how many cars we'll need; please note, however, that due  to the volume of emails, I do not confirm each individually.

For my group, please meet in the parking lot to the far left of the Best Buy near North Point Mall (Best Buy is located at the intersection of Haynes Bridge Road and Exit 9 off of 400) by 9:15am. We will leave promptly at 9:30. FYI, I drive a white Toyota Sequoia. For planning purposes, expect to be back in the Atlanta area sometime around 5pm. See you on the trail!

My GPS found the intersection of Doublehead Gap Road & Deerberry Drive, Blue Ridge, GA. FS 58 intersects Doublehead Gap Road about 200 feet from there. It appears on the map that the Appalachian Trail crosses FS 58 about 2 miles south of that point. Hope that helps.

Hi. This is my first meetup with this group. I would love to carpool with someone. I live in Sandy Springs by 285 and Paces Ferry Rd. Let me know!

Hadn't heard from anyone regarding written directions to the trailhead so I took another look at the map. I finally located FS Rd. 58 but not FS 42. FS 58 intersects Double Head Gap Rd and it also intersects the Appalachian Trail. Is our trailhead near either of these intersections? Thanks.

Bonjour Nicolas, Tanya here. I'm coming from downtown Old 4th Ward, please let me know if you still need a ride!

    July 8, 2014

    Hi everyone,

This is my first hike with the group. I live in Atlanta (Atlantic Station) but I -unfortunately- don't have a car. So is there someone living around midtown or passing close to my place ready to give me a ride ?
I will obviously help to share the expense

    Thx

You might have more luck if you offer to take the train to Doraville or Medical Center, etc. (out to the 'burbs) to make it easier to get a pickup...

Just joined the Sun. hike in Blue Ridge. I'll be driving from Cumming but can't locate FS 58 nor FS 42 on the map. Does anyone have written directions to the trailhead they can share ? I know how to get to Blue Ridge so from there would be fine. Thanks.
