Blood Mountain - From The Backside

Hike Blood Mountain from the back side! These beautiful trails provide a very different look to getting to the top of Blood Mountain, and the trail back includes a semi-secret path along a running creek that's very cool!

We'll meet at Winfield Scott Park. After the pay station, pull into the first parking lot on the left. We'll start on the Jarrad Gap Trail (trailhead right near the parking lot), and return via the Slaughter Creek Trail. No special equipment needed, but please bring water and some food, as we'll make a stop at the top for lunch. Note: Obviously, there will be some elevation gain (about 1,200 ft over the four mile trip, but it is spread out pretty evenly). We'll travel at a good pace, so this hike should be for intermediate to advanced hikers, meaning the pace will be ~3 mph. And as always, no dogs or children.

Carpool Options: I will run one carpool; we'll meet at the Best Buy near North Point Mall (exit 9 off of 400) at 9:15am. Please email me if you'd like to carpool with me, or send a group email if you'd like to get a group to carpool from a different location. Please note, that your email to carpool helps me know who is coming and determine how many cars we'll need. However, due to the volume of emails I receive, I do not respond to each one individually.

See you on the trail!

Charlie

We didn't finish with the group as we got side tracked with photography, but I enjoyed meeting everyone and plan to come again. (Regrets, but we think we may have found a fairly rare plant on this hike).

Are there any ideas of what time we would be back to Atlanta? Something came up for work in the evening.

Cait, based on how I interpret the details shown above, I read it as a 4mi trip @ 3mph speed + lunch at the top. If anyone else can estimate better, please do.

Hi, three questions. 1) I have two sets of directions from State Route 180. The first says to take a right onto Lake Winfield Scott Road, the other says to take a left on to Suches Creek Lane - which is correct? 2) Are there restroom facilities at the trail head? 3) Is anyone else interested in carpooling? I am coming from in-town. Thanks!

I'm coming from decatur could I get a ride (and chip in)

Leslie, I used 439 Lake Winfield Scott since it marks that as the "recreation area" and $5 parking. Shows it as a RIGHT off 180 ;)

I'm coming from Jasper so I'll be meeting you there. I have no idea where I'm going. If I plugg the address in my GPS will that get me there? If anyone wants to carpool from my area you would be welcome.

I will plan to meet you at the Lake Winfield Scott parking lot, from Alpharetta looks like your carpools would arrive there around 10:30...I'm planning to arrive around 7:00 AM to do some fishing before hike at the lake there, if anyone wants to come early to do some fishing, that's where I'll be.
