I think when we have our meeting we can get everyones input and come up with something interesting and then plan an upcoming show

Yes, I like the idea of doing an exhibition with a concept for a group show!
How do we decide on the concept?

Hi Lisette,

I have a great idea for one of our Meetups. Lets call it Group Art.  I actually did this with another Meetup Group this past weekend. It was a Mural Party with the group SCV Symposium. I believe photos will be posted of our experience and the nearly finished art on our group page here:

http://www.meetup.com/SymposiumSCV/

We painted a wall in the hosts house, everyone participated even though I was the only artist present. Everyone attending was assigned a small set of supplies to bring. The host started with an idea of what he wanted on his wall: Baachus and Athena with wine and other symbology. We did some quick research on the web as I did a rough sketch on paper, which everyone liked and then I proceeded to chalk it out on the wall. Then we all got to paint it. I would demonstrate how to paint a leaf, then everyone painted a leaf, etc. It was so much fun! These non-artists were excited to try their hand at painting.

Then I thought what a great way to exchange ideas with other artists! What better way than to actually work together on a piece! We dont have to paint a wall, it could be a big canvas or a wall covered with paper that could be removed. But what I am talking about here is creating group art, the process of which would be very exciting as we exchange and share concepts and techniques. This experience has inspired me to no end, and I am sure that it would have the same effect on other artist participants. I would really like to do this with other artists.

What do you think?

Artists's meetup:
Hello everybody, and thank you for joining our group, I appreciate it.
Im trying to figure out events and activities that most of us would like to see happen at our meetings.
I have been reading your comments and suggestions and they are helpful too.
If you have a little extra time you may email me with ideas.

Also, please let me know, as an artist, if there are chores you would you like to share with other artists that could cut down the amount of work that you do during the week, so that you may focus more of your time on creating art.
You may let me know your favorites from the following choices:
-I could use help finding funding and grant opportunities
-help finding out about websites that can market my work
-help figuring out galleries in Los Angeles
-I would like to hear speakers that can teach us about marketing our art more effectively
-I would like to do an exhibition with peers
-I would like help with develop new techniques, I would like to take classes from peers
-I would like help setting goals and keeping them
-I would like to teach classes
-I would like to attend art exhibitions with peers
Also, if you are an artist with lots of experience exhibiting and networking, let me know what are the events that could still help you grow.
You can email your thoughts and comments at [address removed].
I find it easier to answer email when emails are sent to me directly, I dont always understand meetups email system. If you have emailed me and you havent heard from me, I just didnt get your email, please email again.
And I think someone asked me about doing art shows with musicians and I couldnt find her/his email to reply. But the answer is yes! Absolutely.
Thank you,
Lissette
