Eagle Creek Park Saturday morning hike

Let's meet at Starbuck's on 71st Street at 10:00, then carpool into the park so that people with park passes can get the rest of you in the park for free. The hike will be between 5 and 6 miles long, and should take about two to two-and-a-half hours to complete.

What a beautiful day for a walk.

Wildflowers, woodpeckers, winding trails - a perfect day for walking in the woods and chatting with easygoing companions. Not too strenuous, but we somehow managed to do around 6.5 miles so have earned a nap this afternoon. Very enjoyable spring hike.

My pedometer bites! I only got 4.4 miles... but I sure feel like I did more. I knew that thing was rigged...

This was a wonderful morning and meeting everyone, hiking, and taking in beautiful Eagle Creek was absolutely perfect. I had a great time and look forward to seeing everyone for the next one. I agree, Heather, "Very enjoyable."

If anyone has an Eagle Creek park pass, please bring it so that other people can get in without paying $5 or $6. I have a park pass and I can get six other people in with me for free.

Don't forget to bring water tomorrow. It's supposed to be warm!

So, I have a pass, but I'm hiking with my dog and there would only be room in my small truck for one dog lover. (But I have an idea that may help - we can discuss in the am, if we need to help more people.)

And, just a heads-up: the Park is likely to be extra-busy because there is a 5K run from 9 - noon; although, they weren't going to be restricting access because of it.

I can get three more people in my car, four if they like each other.

Hey ya all :-) I plan to come but this will be my first time. Any tips anyone wants to give as to what to bring and dress and such?....

    1 · April 11, 2014

    • Heather M.

Well, I think Deb has answered this since you posted (ie, comfortable shoes, and a water bottle or two). I always bring a camera, even though the Park is not at its most beautiful this time of year. That's probably all you need, but I don't personally tend to travel light so I have a small backpack with snacks, portable water bowl for my little dog, basic 1st aid supplies (band aids, peroxide, antibiotic cream, etc). Don't worry - I hike there several days a week and have never needed 1st aid stuff, but I prefer a backpack over carrying stuff in my hands, so I just throw in things I might need, and, plus, I have somewhere to put jackets, etc if I don't want to wear them anymore .

I think there will be some really pretty early wildflowers starting to bloom and also some trees will be budding, so the photo ops will be small and choice. :)

Hi, this is my first time with this group. I just have to show up and find the team? trying to drag more people with me, hope that doesn't matter

    2 · April 10, 2014

    • Deb

You can wear anything. Just wear shoes that you can walk at least several miles in. Also bring some water.

      April 11, 2014

And bring as many people as you want.

New to the group- do you do any family-friendly hikes that children would be comfortable completing? I really wanted to come tomorrow since the weather will be beautiful, but I think 5 mi is a bit much for my daughter. (single parent here with few babysitters)

This hike will be fine for children. Just make sur they are dressed appropriately (jeans, sneakers, not flip flops) and they have water to drink. Also some snacks for them will make the experience more fun for them.

I have been having back trouble for the first time in my life. My doctor told me today to stop hiking for a while, so this event will be a "stroll" and shorter. If someone wants to go faster and longer, you are welcome to head out on your own. :)

    • Debbie J.

That doesn't sound very good Deb, hope you can get the back trouble figured out! Hope you're not in a lot of pain! Are you should you should be hiking against doc's advice?

      I'll be all right

Looking forward to another sunny 'walk & talk' in the park! :-)

I plan on going, but I live by the Washington Square Mall and 71st street would be out of the way for me. Any other suggestions?

I love eagle creek & outdoor walking is always nice. Looks like I will be working this day. :( I'm sorry to hear your back is bothering you in such a way, Deb. I know we have not met in person. I do hope you feel much better soon. On a side note, I did go to school for Massage Therapy. If there is anything I can do, please contact me. Or any questions you may have...I graduated in 2001, so I do have some experience! Much peace & love

Not very familiar with that area. Could u give me more info as to where Starbucks is?

    April 6, 2014

    • Deb

The Starbucks address is 6335 W. 71st Street, Indpls., 46278. It is about a mile east of Eagle Creek Park on 71st Street. If you take 465 and get off on the 71st Street exit, it is on the southwest corner of 465 and 71st Street.
