****** Since no one is coming with me for this trip, I have decided to cancel it. I've a garage to paint and it won't be dreadfully hot, so I'll be wielding a roller instead of a pack :)
I will be planning further trips to Mohican so don't worry if you couldn't make it.
You may all remember canoeing down the Mohican River on those lazy summer days so many years ago, but did you know that you can also backpack every trail in both the State Park and Forest? I know this is short notice, but I have the time and want to discover more of both Mohican State Forest and Park. Of course, I would enjoy it if a few of you could join me :)
Mohican State Forest's backpacking campsites are called Park and Pack Sites. They are on a first-come, first-serve basis, with the sign-up at the Forest Office off of CR939. While I have a few ideas on where to camp, our route will be dependent on which campsite is available. Now this picture is from April, after a lot of rain, but you should still be prepared for a creek-crossing or two.
On Saturday, we will be hiking 6-8 miles. On Sunday, since I need to be back in Cleveland by 1pm, we will be hiking out no more than 3 miles, leaving around 9am.
While this trip will be a relatively easy and beginners are very welcome :), I do not have anything that I can lend to anyone. If you plan on coming, you must be sure to have everything you need or make arrangements with others on the trip. Remember, you can also borrow equipment from another member of THW too :-)
As for the celebratory meal after we have finished our hiking, Grandpa's Cheese Barn is my restaurant of choice. It has been a favorite place of mine for cheese when I traveled 71 to visit my grandmother. I have never had the time though to stay long enough to sit down in their cafe, so on this trip of discovery, I plan on having breakfast there. Everyone is welcomed to join me.
