Discover The Mohican You Never Knew

******  Since no one is coming with me for this trip, I have decided to cancel it.  I've a garage to paint and it won't be dreadfully hot, so I'll be wielding a roller instead of a pack :)

I will be planning further trips to Mohican so don't worry if you couldn't make it.

Petra********

You may all remember canoeing down the Mohican River on those lazy summer days so many years ago, but did you know that you can also backpack every trail in both the State Park and Forest?  I know this is short notice, but I have the time and want to discover more of both Mohican State Forest and Park.  Of course, I would enjoy it if a few of you could join me :)

Mohican State Forest's backpacking campsites are called Park and Pack Sites. They are on a first-come, first-serve basis, with the sign-up at the Forest Office off of CR939.  While I have a few ideas on where to camp, our route will be dependent on which campsite is available. Now this picture is from April, after a lot of rain, but you should still be prepared for a creek-crossing or two.

On Saturday, we will be hiking 6-8 miles.  On Sunday, since I need to be back in Cleveland by 1pm, we will be hiking out no more than 3 miles, leaving around 9am.

While this trip will be a relatively easy and beginners are very welcome :), I do not have anything that I can lend to anyone.  If you plan on coming, you must be sure to have everything you need or make arrangements with others on the trip.  Remember, you can also borrow equipment from another member of THW too :-)

As for the celebratory meal after we have finished our hiking, Grandpa's Cheese Barn  is my restaurant of choice.  It has been a favorite place of mine for cheese when I traveled 71 to visit my grandmother.  I have never had the time though to stay long enough to sit down in their cafe, so on this trip of discovery, I plan on having breakfast there.  Everyone is welcomed to join me.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, post away.  You can also reach me at [masked] or (440) 724-1481.

    Petra,

The answer is probably no for me, BUT, I'll technically be right down the street in Lexington this weekend. I'll see if we can join you for your trip since you've had numerous people drop. The problem is I have a high school graduation party to attend on Saturday, so even if it's a yes, we'd have to meet you at camp. I'll let you know tomorrow.

ARG! I hit the return to start a new paragraph and it posts what I've typed. Anyways, I'll still be going, even if it means going solo.

Won't be able to start Sat. until about 1-2pm; as long as I know where you're going I'll catch up.

Kai, I'm glad you can make it. Since we won't know until we get there, we'll figure out a meeting place and let you know Sat. Send me your number and I'll text or leave you a message, your preference.

Grandpa's Cheese Barn! I love that place! Please pick me up some 5 year old aged cheddar while you are there....And while you're at it, some ammo from Fin, Feather, Fur would be nice as well....

OK Bill, just give me your list. You can pay me back when I get the cheese and ammo to you :)

To encourage beginners, I DO HAVE EXTRA EQUIPMENT, and I'd me more than happy to loan out a tent or sleeping pad for this excursion. Contact me directly if interested.
