Dinner & French Cabaret Songs at Phil & Derek's (River Oaks)

Join your fellow Francophiles for dinner, drinks and live French music!  Our group member Deborah Boily sings traditional French cabaret songs, accompanied by Jerry Atwood. Let's have a nice meal, socialize, and support a talented member of our community!

Time: Meet for dinner at 7PM.  The music starts at 7:30PM, so this will give us a little time to get settled in our seats and place our orders. We will probably be there until at least 9:30PM.

How to find us:

Reservation under "Amanda", meetup sign on table. Amanda's cellphone # is[masked]-9160.

About Phil & Derek's:

Formerly known as Bistro Calais, Phil and Derek's is a New Orleans-style restaurant and bar located in a historic home in River Oaks.  They have a varied menu with some French items, but mostly Southern and Cajun cuisine. View the menu here:  http://philanddereks.com/site/menu/

Wine list is here: http://philanddereks.com/site/wine/

About Deborah Boily:

Check out her website for more info and song samples: http://www.deborahboily.com/

French-speaking NOT required at this event.  If you want to speak French, I will arrange to sit the French-speakers at one end of the table and English-only speakers at the other.

I am also inviting the Dining Out Club/Houston meetup group.

This was a really nice event! We were able to seat all the French speakers together at one table, plus we had 2 tables of English speakers. The food was delicious and inexpensive. The ambiance was lovely, although it was a little too warm. Deborah Boily's singing was superb! She has a wonderful voice and I liked her eclectic choice of songs. I definitely want to come back here sometime!

Really great service...good food, reasonable prices depending on your appetite. The live music was very nice too.

Also, please order dinner or at least an appetizer and drink. Anyone not ordering will be asked to move to the bar area.

Phil is also worried that (a) people won't show up and he will lose business from his regular customers, and (b) people will be taking up table space just to watch the show and won't order food and drinks. SO...if you RSVP'd "yes" but aren't sure if you really want to go, please be considerate and free up your spot for another group member or one of the regular restaurant patrons. If you RSVP yes and "no-show" the night of the dinner, you'll be banned from this meetup group.

Folks, I need your cooperation. I spoke to the owner and he is very concerned about the size of our group. He is worried that 30 people arriving at 7PM will overwhelm the kitchen. So I agree to split us into a 7PM group and a 7:30PM group. Is anyone willing to move to a 7:30PM reservation? We'll have 2 tables in each group. Thanks in advance.

Merci, Deborah! I will call back and add to the reservation, but, like you, I get very upset and embarrassed when people RSVP yes and then don't show up. It's rude and very inconvenient for the restaurant, since they lose money on the empty tables.

I am not sure if the restaurant can hold this many people. I only made a reservation for 20 and we have almost 40 people now between the 2 groups.
