Le Poème Harmonique's Venezia: Early Music From Da Camera

Saturday, March 9

Wortham Theater Center - Cullen Theater (501 Texas Street Houston, TX 77002)

With the stage bathed in beautiful candlelight, the Golden Age of Venice returns to glorious life, courtesy of the award-winning French vocal and early-instrument ensemble Le Poème Harmonique. An entertaining mix of light-hearted, funny pieces by Francesco Manelli, Monteverdi's haunting madrigals and more, Venezia recreates a street-music performance during that city's beloved Carnival. With rare instruments like the theorbo and lirone, and a stirring chorus of voices led by soprano Claire Lefilliâtre, Vincent Dumestre's world-renowned group makes its Houston debut with this performance, as part of Da Camera's 25th anniversary season.
