Share Your Culture at the CVHS International Festival, November 8, 4-9 pm @ 1501 Taft Street!

I am helping students at Carnegie Vanguard High School organize the second annual International Festival at their school. It is a fundraiser to benefit the student service group, Rhinos Beyond Borders. I would appreciate it if you would donate a performance or other donation during the festival, which is on November 8 from 4-9 pm at 1501 Taft, Houston, TX 77019.
Ten HISD campuses were identified as some of the best in the county by Newsweek, which released its list of the nation’s top high schools on May 6 – in the Top 100: Carnegie Vanguard High School (# 28). The students at this school are extremely gifted and engaged in their surrounding community of midtown. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something great!

Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request. The student's letter is below:

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Mai Pham. I am a junior at Carnegie Vanguard High School. Our school club, Rhinos Beyond Borders, is hosting our second annual International Festival at our high school to raise money for orphanages abroad. Last year, our first International Festival raised $6,112.00 and had over 450 attendees. With this profit, we purchased 24 beds for an orphanage in the rural part of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at a cost of $4,200. The bed frames were durable and sustainable for Vietnam’s environment, and the beds also came with mattresses. You can see the results of our fundraising efforts below.

This year’s International Festival will be held on November 8, 2013 from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M. on the Carnegie Vanguard High School campus downtown. We wish a repeat of our successful effort, and would greatly appreciate a complimentary cultural performance from your organization to help us with our mission. With your help, we hope to support the Jai Kalyan Samiti Orphanage in India this year.

Sincerely,

Mai Pham

2012 Results:
Since the funding for the festival was strictly donation-based, the club made a 100% profit. The total amount raised was $6,112.00.

After purchase/shipment/assembly of the beds for the orphanage, the remaining funds were used for various Rhinos Beyond Borders activities such as Operation Shoebox, volunteering at the Houston Soup Kitchen, etc.
