Climbing Outdoors in Austin area (Reimers Ranch)

We are heading to Austin for the weekend to go climbing outdoors on Friday through Sunday (for those of us who get Friday off...the rest of us will meet up Saturday and Sunday only)! Most of us are camping at Pace Bend for the weekend. See details below.

Reimers Ranch is about a half hour southwest of Austin. There are routes for beginners through advanced levels. There is a fee to enter the park - $10 per car and they will make you sign a waiver.

What you need to bring:

  • Your own harness and shoes.

  • Water - bring yourself a few bottles.
  • Non-flip flop footwear to walk to the climbing walls (I have a "lovely" story about that one...).

Hey Ashish- my cell is[masked]-1414. The parking lot there is pretty small so we should be able to find each other. See you in a few hours!!

Maybe easier to stick with sat/sun as the *official* plan in that case, and friday is there for anyone who feels up for more climbing or just having fun in Austin etc?

I'm probably not going to make it this weekend. It'll be a last minute decision.

I was thinking of staying here and driving down to camp tonight and climb Saturday to drive back Saturday night. Anyone want a ride or to carpool?

So: a few of us are going to Austin on friday night, is the best plan to meet everyone else at the North Shore parking lot at noon/1pm?

Thoughts? Does that work for people?

Its in reimers ranch. You can ask the ranger at the gate for directions, but its basically a little past the regular reimers parking lot. Its described well by signs.

Hey all, I'm looking like a no-go at this point :( but there's still a chance :) If I end up being able to swing it, I'd make it out there on Saturday for some camping then a day of climbing on Sunday.

Also, I have yet to go to Reimers. Is it typically sport climbing or have you set up some top rope routes in the past? Just curious since I am definitely still a rookie at the former.

Hey guys! Austin climber here, I'll be joining for the Sat climb. Considering camping, but can't make that decision just yet. I can lead and have equipment for a full track. See you all there =)

I just checked and I actually don't get any days off. So I can meet you guys there a day later.

Just checked the calendar and I get the friday 29th off not the monday... Anyone else?

    March 15, 2013

  • Laura

Andrew - that'd be great if we could all meet up. I think we are staying Sunday too because it's Easter weekend, so i think most people have Monday off?...must double check that. Kyle - someone can definitely pick you up. The more ropes the better!

If someone could pick me up passing through Austin, that'd be swell. I have some ropes and draws I can bring if needed.

I will probably up that way this weekend with some friends from Stone Moves. Maybe we can meetup? We usually go to the North Shore area. If you need to figure out a carpool, you can let me know. We generally leave Sat morning and come back Sunday nght. Are you guys spending the night on Sunday too?
