The Hyderabad VOIP & Asterisk PBX meetup Group discusses about VOIP in general but with more emphasis of using Asterisk PBX for VOIP deployments
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is simply the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks.
The Internet Protocol (IP) was originally designed for data networking. The success of IP in becoming a world standard for data networking has led to its adaption to voice networking.
Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux/Unix, BSD, MacOSX and Windows and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk does voice over IP in many protocols, and can inter operate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware.
