October meetup: "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by Choderlos de Laclos

Our October book will be "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by Choderlos de Laclos.

Hope to see you there.

The complex moral ambiguities of seduction and revenge make Les Liaisons dangereuses (1782) one of the most scandalous and controversial novels in European literature. The subject of major film and stage adaptations, the novel's prime movers, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil, form an unholy alliance and turn seduction into a game - a game which they must win.

Lots of editions. Some of the English translations are called "Dangerous Liaisons" but most use the French title.

Anyone coming this Sunday for this meetup: The table is booked as usual in my name (Justin) but they don't always put a name on the table so you may need to ask staff or have a good look around to find us. I'll put a Meetup sign on the table as soon as I get there.

I've asked for the table in the alcove opposite the bar (when you come in the main entrance, facing the bar, turn right, then look to your right and should you see it). But they may forget and put us somewhere else. As usual, we'll choose a book for two months ahead, so we'll choose our December book this Sunday. If you remember and can think of something, please come with a suggestion or two; you can even bring the book itself to pass around and we'll have a little vote.

See you then. If you have any questions, drop me a line.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
