WEAVING THE CELTIC PAST

Join in on an interesting event at the American Irish Historical Society that mixes culture, history, arts all together! I have on hold spaces and depending on level of popularity can add more.

Edel Breathnach, Moya Brennan, and Cormac de Barra "Weaving a Celtic Past" The Society welcomes Edel Bhreathnach and musicians Moya Brennan and Cormac de Barra to our headquarters on Fifth Avenue for their presentation entitled: "Weaving a Celtic Past." Through song, history, music and images of books and manuscripts protected by Irish Franciescans, Brennan, de Barra, and Breathnach weave a vivid portrait of Celtic history. Edel Bhreathnach is a historian of medieval Irish history and literature and is deputy director of the Micheál Ó Cléirigh Institute for the Study of Irish History and Civilisation at University College Dublin. Moya Brennan is the lead singer for Grammy award winning Irish band Clannad, and Cormac de Barra is a traditional harpist.

The program is a narrative lecture, interspersed with songs and music performed by Brennan and de Barra. Bhreathnach says the presentation is "the story of preserving and reviving the memory of Irish identity."

This even it open to the Public.

Suggested Donation of $10.00.

I enjoyed it a lot especially learning about how there are many manuscripts kept by Irish monks and friars that still need to be explored.

All of the performers that I spoke to afterwards were very nice and down-to-earth.

Beautiful singing, harp playing and historical story telling from Franciscan monastery archives. Moya & Cormac were outstanding.

The event was problematic for me. The narrator needed a microphone, the slides should have been higher up so all could see. I'm sure that my inability to hear the spoken words or see the slides last night makes for a faulty appraisal of the actual program. The songs and musicians were wonderful though.

It was a lovely evening of songs and stories of Ireland. The venue was elegant and the program was beautifully presented. Made me proud to be Irish!

Sounds like you will also be immersed in the music on the same night. Hopefully I will have a chance to capture some good photos.

My husband won't be back from work until 7, so can I bring my daughter? She's 7 months old, but is very quite! Of course I will depart if she starts to make a fuss - but I just thought I should check before I confirm my attendance! :)

Hi Bridget. I just returned from LA and saw this. Hope I'm not too late in responding. How was your trip to Ireland? Where do we pay the suggested donation? Thanks.
