A search on meetup for genealogy
Finding a new piece of information I had no idea about. My maternal grandfather's background was murky, he dies when my mom was very young and the families didn't speak, so the hunt was on based on what little info I had. I found him born in Wisc., rather than England (oops!), and a third cousin who was researching his brother...that led me to cousins in NY/NJ (one who lives two blocks from my job). That my great-grandmother was born in Spain. A trip to Staten Island to look through microfilm of the S.I. Advance newspaper gave me the first (and only) photograph of my grandfather on the front page!
Hi, I'm Joe. I've enjoyed genealogy for about twenty years, but finding ancestors across the Pond has been a challenge. The most fun was tracing my grandfather down and finding cousins. Let me know your favorite genealogy story.
