IBG Lazy Sunday Afternoon - "Shouldn't Have Read This"...

Hi All,

We had a fantastic second Lazy Sunday Afternoon last week when we discussed the books / authors that were The Emperors new clothes - essentially books that are overated / overhyped  / poor.

Thank you all who came along - it was a fun debate with most of us in agreement of each others choices.

The list of Emperor's New Clothes included:

Fifty Shades of Gray by E L James

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

In The Name of The Rose by Umberto Eco

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

My Legendary Girlfriend by Mike Gayle ( also any other late nineties / early noughties "chick lit for blokes" books eg by Nick Hornby, Tony Parsons )

Post Office by Chales Bukowski

Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie

Haruki Murakami ( all of them .... )

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks ( and any other current "chicklit" doing the rounds eg Eat Pray Love, PS I Love You

Life of Pi by Yann Martell

Celebrate by Pippa Middleton

A Short History of Tractors in Ukranina by Marina Lewycka

We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver ( and other similar poorly researched psychological misery lit )

Dan Brown ( eg The Da Vinci Code and Angles and Demons )

We had a lovely extended meetup ( 5 hours I think this time ) discussing debating all the above.

For the next meetup the theme will be "Shouldn't Have Read This". Please come along and discuss the book(s) that you read at too young an age / at a vunerable point in your life which have since left you with a phobia / emotional scar / irrational fear etc etc. Think of it as a public service to warn your fellow members.

Hope to see you then,

Hannah :-)
