Announcing a new Meetup for The Islington Book Group!

What: IBG Thursday Meetup - The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa

When: Thursday, November 18,[masked]:00 PM

Where: King of Denmark pub
Cloudsley Road

Hi All,

We had a great meetup last week where we discussed Invisible by Paul Auster.

Most of the discussion was centred around the theme of incest in the book, the nature of it's morality and it's positon as a societal taboo.

We then spoke a lot about the style of writing and the authors switching from first person, to second person and then third person. We discussed this tool and how cleverly / clumsily we felt it had been done.

The characters and their representations of the "good" and the "bad" in humanity were also discussed at length.

We voted for The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa as the next book. It is a account of the turbulent times in the Dominican Republic from the 1930s to 1960s interwoven with fictional stories.

Hope to see you there :-)
