What: Beginning Kayak -- Level 1

This is a Beginning Level 1 Kayak Class. This class is for first-time kayakers, people trying to transition from canoes or sea kayaks to whitewater kayaks, or those who paddle but have never taken a class and wish to review the basics.

With friendly and experienced ACA certified instructors, you will start by learning the proper fit for your gear and boat. We introduce you to safety concepts for kayaking. Then you start out paddling on calm water, learning step by step the basic strokes and how to propel yourself. A variety of creative, on-water activities help you master these necessary skills. You will amaze yourself with your ability to explore the islands and backwaters of the Potomac even on the first lesson.

During the lesson, you'll learn:
? the proper method for sizing and entering a kayak
? basic paddling strokes
? a method to exit a kayak if the kayak flips (?wet exit?)
? paddling in flat water part of the Potomac River, and possibly down through some very minor rapids (this is the fun part!)

What:
4 hrs. including warm-up and stretch, safety briefing, introduction to strokes, and river dynamics.

What to bring:
All equipment is provided, or you can bring yours.

Liquid Adventures is offering this class to us for $55 (regularly $90).

Prerequisites:
Good health and ability to swim
