Amazing Race - Melaka

  • May 1, 2011 · 8:30 AM

Participants: Youths from RACTAR (Home in Subang) and East Timor-Leste (Melaka) youths
Goals: Have fun whilst learning about Melaka history.

Map of historical sites

...1) We have 11 historical sites stations, plus 1 lunch stop station - 12 places in all that we need volunteers to be stationed at.

2) We'll probably have 4 running teams (we would prefer 5, but the RACTAR girls will be timid if we split them up) and we need a volunteer to run with each team - so 4 additional volunteers. Whoever runs with the teams needs to be very fit because I'm sure the youths will really RUN!

There are 5 of us in CampVision Malaysia committee already, so we need at least 11 more volunteers.

The volunteer at the lunch stop station will need to make sure the food is ready for the teams when they arrive.

The volunteers at the 11 historical site stations will give out the challenges to the youths (eg. for Jonker's street, the youths have to find a list of places that we will give them and pose for photos; for Stadhuys, the youths will go inside the museum and find answers to questions), check that the answers are correct, and then give them the photograph of the next station. Volunteers cannot tell the youths where the station is - the youths must use the photograph to find the next station.

The volunteers running with the teams need to make sure the youths are doing the challenges without cheating (!!), keep drinking water, take a mandatory 30-minute lunch break, and watch for safety eg. no running across the road!

No costs actually involved for volunteers, except we are car-pooling from Kuala Lumpur, so may need a couple more volunteers to offer to drive and help car-pool. Unfortunately, we are broke for the moment - so hope they do not mind to pay for their own toll and petrol >.<.
