Walking helps brighten your mood and gives you some much-needed fresh air. We can help! People’s Food Coop is hosting Nordic Walking Clinics this winter in partnership with Gazelle Sports. A Gazelle Sports staff member will provide instruction and poles.
Recent studies by the Cooper Institute, Dallas, showed that Nordic walking burned more calories, increased oxygen consumption, and can be up to 46% more efficient than normal walking.
Nordic walking also benefits weight loss. By using the Nordic walking poles, you increase your heart rate on average 10-15% more than normal walking. This means you can burn well over 400 calories per hour, much more than normal walking, which only burns approximately 280. Nordic walking is a different technique than trekking with poles.
We will hike the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail (KRVT) for 1.5 - 5 miles. Bring your Nordic poles, water, and dress in layers. If you don't have poles, Gazelle Sports will bring a pair for a limited number of participants.
Join us on January 25, February 22, and March 22 for a brisk and energizing walk with friends!
