it has been the foundation of programming since days of AI ans LISP. and most surely this is also going to be the future. with architectures now scaling more and more nodes, and more and more cores per CPU, features like immutability and first class functions, functional programming is the way of the future. so it is 'imperative' for every serious programmer/architect to learn functional lrogramming.
