Vegas WordPress October Meetup

Come join us for an evening of WordPress knowledge sharing! We'll have a small handful of presentations and then some good old fashioned Q & A.

Session #1
 - WordPress for beginners

Session #2
Michael Cremean: Project FAIL! - Sharing my mistakes so you can avoid them.

For the last 20 years I've led dozens of teams through hundreds of projects. Though in the last few years there is great project success rate, this success came as a result of learning from previous mistakes. Let's call that 'experience'.

Mistakes are only bad when you don't learn from them and repeat them. Through sharing what I've learned from them, I hope you can avoid them yourself.

I'll be sharing some experience and covering things like 'did they really ask me that' , 'what the customer really means when they say...' and that classic 'communication breakdown'.

Names have been changed to protect both the innocent and guilty.

I thought my first visit was comfortable and the speakers were extremely knowledgeable; presentations were very good and the interaction from everyone was equally good because questions in my head were answered. Had a chance to keep some notes. Question, is it possible to use handouts in the future for presentations? John, Chris, Russel and Mike - your presentations were very good. I got something to stick from each of them.

Hi Jerry, Glad you enjoyed the session. After each event we post links to as many things as possible that we talked about on our blog at http://wpvegas.com/ - Creating handouts is not something I'm likely going to do for my presentations for a couple reasons; most of what gets printed would be a waste of paper as it would only apply to a small portion of the group. And, so much info is available online, it's better to give you links to resources where you can read about our specific topics and then so-much-more.

Great presentations - and always have many takeaways/homework. More homework, but "good" homework that is very beneficial. Thank you!!!

I am basically new to WordPress and would like to learn as much as I can to setup a website using WordPress and to manage what I created. I love to learn and especially hands on so I am extremely excited about going to meetups to learn and to eventually apply what I learn. I cannot wait to get started.

Jerry, we should compare notes; I am doing the same thing and need to brainstorm. I have a photographic practice that creates images of models and must upload them from the Jeep to the site. I am convinced that WordPress is the best way to apply your interests into a powerful media tool. Good luck on your application!

My next step is to have a theme and one Paypal buy button operational; sometimes I think I have run to the the end of my chain and all I can do it bark - lots of fun and I am making progress ;) The help I have received from H.K. and John (and so many more) is very much appreciated!!! Now practicing website work and photography from the Jeep O||||O and a hot spot (some call this camping) ...

Since I am the absolute novice with WordPress, I intend to setup my website on an online server. Is there anyone who I can talk with to give me some guidance via email or phone or in person?

Hey Jerry, if you bring a laptop to the next meetup I can help walk you through the installation and configuration. In the mean time check out wordpress.tv to find some great video tutorials.

I do not have a laptop, but I will be interested in talking on the phone and in person. Thanks for your kind response.
