Upcoming WordPress events and other Meetup Info

It's been a while since I've sent out a message to the whole group and I was realizing that there is a bunch of info to pass along and not everybody in our meetup group sees everything posted on Facebook, so I figured I'd shoot out an update to get everybody up to speed. So, in no particular order, here we go...
Upcoming Events
8/10 - Using WordPress: For the absolute beginner
This is a class I ran late last year and have been asked to run it again. The class costs $40 and will run for 4 hours. For more info and to register for the class head to http://skl.sh/12P92Pr
8/21 - August WordPress meetup
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Location: Work In Progress
I'm still working on the schedule for this meetup. If you're interested in doing a presentation, or if there's a topic you really want to hear about, head to http://wpvegas.com/contact/ and let me know!
8/24 - TDB
I already have the room reserved to run another 4 hour WordPress class. I'm trying to decide which topic to cover. If you've got a suggestion, let me know.
9/17 - September WordPress meetup
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Location: Work In Progress
I'm still working on the schedule for this meetup. If you're interested in doing a presentation, or if there's a topic you really want to hear about, head to http://wpvegas.com/contact/ and let me know!
12/14 & 12/15 - WordCamp Las Vegas 2013
We're still in the very early planning stages for WordCamp, but rest assured, it's going to be awesome! Saturday will consist of 45 minute presentations in two different tracks; one geared toward end users and the other geared toward developers/designers. Keep your eyes on http://2013.vegas.wordcamp.org/ as we'll be updating the site in the next few weeks with speaker and sponsor submissions and other information as it becomes available.
Meeting Location
For those who have been members for a while, you know the troubles we've had maintaining a consistent place to hold our meetups. Well, I'm happy to report that our current home, Work In Progress, is now our permanent home. What's better than that, we will no longer be in the garage. Ever!
I've been given the green light to schedule our Meetups in the downstairs classroom months in advance. And since the reservation system actually works and doesn't allow for overlapping events, the troubles we've had in the past should be just that... in the past!
Parking at the Meetup
I get asked about parking for the meetups every month. Here's the general rule:
- Parking in the church behind Work In Progress is at your own risk. But, I can tell you that I have parked there at least 50 times and have never had a problem. Since our meetups are in the evenings, the chances of anybody getting towed are extremely low. There are 3 rows of parking spots. Park in one of two rows furthest from the church and avoid the row that is closest to the church.
- Street parking is available, but you need to make sure if the metered time has passed. On most streets the meters stop being enforced at 5 or 6 pm. But there are some streets (Bridger, I think) that the meters run until 8pm.
Just be careful. I don't want you getting a parking ticket.
WordPress Tips, Links and Assistance
You probably already figured out that we've got a pretty darn helpful WordPress community here in Vegas. But I wanted to remind you of a few places where you can go to get info from the Vegas WordPress crew.
Each month I post a roundup of the tools and links talked about at the monthly meetup.
Our Facebook meetup group has nearly 200 members. If you have a question about WordPress or a WordPress project you're working on, the Facebook group is a great place to ask it.
This week I started using the WPVegas Twitter account to post links to plugins, articles and other helpful WordPress info.
And Finally
I've been to other WordPress meetups in other cities and many of them serve pizza and beer. I'm curious if you would be interested in having food and drink at the event or if you'd rather not. I set up an online poll to get some feedback. https://www.wedgies.com/question/51f44b16e288de0200000007
If you've made it this far, well done! Thanks for reading. I look forward to seeing you at the next event!
Cheers,
