Member Showcase

  • October 17, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Six 5-minute slots available for members on a first-come first-served basis. Pitch a product, present an idea or ask the group for advice.

We had high demand for the June Showcase and expect similar for October. Remember that if you don't secure a place this time round we will be running regular Member Showcases in future!

1. Peter Stidwell from MIT-based Learning Games Network (who some of you will remember from when he worked at Parliament's Education Service) will tell us about ethical-thinking game Quandary. He'll be presenting over Skype, so please pray to the technology Gods for a good connection!

2. Laurent Arhuro will be talking about the educational games made by his design company: http://www.flashapps.co.uk/

3. Longstanding #LEGup member Brian Egles will talk about Jaguar Cars 'Maths in Motion' challenge for schools.

Break

4. Michael Carter will talk about his prototype board game 'Take-off', which is suitable for 6-90-yr-olds!

5. Ash Cairo will talk about adding educational mechanics to a multiplayer shooter game.

6. Julia Bateson from Excite-ed will talk about the Excite-ed Way, a Beta programme they are currently offering in schools.

Hi Everyone, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the event last night. I just blogged about it: http://linklens.blogspot.co.uk/... sorry I couldn't hang around to chat - three young kids an all. I teach parallel game programming and game design courses online from London to students in Hawaii so the Excite-ed stuff was of particular interest to me. I've had mixed success getting my 7 year old into game programming :-) Will keep trying - maybe when he's 8 ...

    Hey guys,

Great to be back at #LEGup yesterday, if only virtually. Thanks for having me!

Some people have been in touch about the ethical thinking game I showcased - thanks for you comments and questions - I'll respond ASAP.

For info, it is freely available. You can find it at www.quandarygame.org . More feedback and questions definitely welcomed.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Nice combination of short talks and discussions, just a bit more of time for networking can be better.

Great talks (a bit more screening to be more ed-based might be useful, e.g. I enjoyed the boarding game idea but not so ed)
