TRANSPORT

There are line closures tomorrow on the Jubilee line between Wembley Park and Waterloo and on the DLR between Canning Town and Beckton. Normal service operates on Jubilee between Waterloo and Canning Town and  on DLR  from Canning Town to Woolwich Arsenal. Rail replacement buses are available if your journey is affected by the engineering works, but please add at least an extra half hour to your journey planning to get to the walk on time at 11am.  I hope to see you!

Alternative routes include catching buses from North Greenwich to Woolwich Arsenal or taking the overground 10.11am train from London Bridge station to Woolwich Arsenal station. There are heavy winds tonight which mean the train speed is reduced tomorrow to 40mph apparently, so there maybe delays there too.

The weather should be dry tomorrow though a tad windy. Do dress in layers and wear comfy shoes. :-)

Meet outside the Woolwich Arsenal railway station exit for 11am start. Picture of  the exit is below. The DLR exit is around the corner from this exit.

Toilets: There are toilets inside the station that can be used before going through the ticket barriers. There is also a toilet stop 20 minutes into the walk.

Coffee/Tea: There is a Costa Coffee shop near one of the DLR exits near the ticket barriers. If you arrive very early, there is a large supermarket nearby and other coffee shops.

Terrain: There are slopes and steps on this walk and maybe some puddles. Wear supporting and comfortable footwear.

I would recommend bringing drinks and snacks on this walk as this is a longish walk of three hours and approximately 6 miles along the Thames path from Woolwich Arsenal DLR+overground to Cutty Sark DLR walking past the Thames Barrier and with a view of the Emirates Airline (cable cars connecting Excel centre to O2) and the O2 itself.

Meet outside Woolwich Arsenal railway station exit for an 11am. We start promptly, so do plan your journey! Please click here for the Transport for London Journey planner http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en

PS: The walk will be cancelled if the weather suddenly turns bad or there are less than 10 people signed up.

Sorry I have had to cancel, I would have to take too many detours because of the tube closures and would risk not making it on time.

Have just clarified with London Transport that apparently you will still be able to travel on DLR direct from Canning Town to Woolwich Arsenal tomorrow i.e. the closure is just on the Beckton branch.

      Great news!

Thanks Linda. For the group - The Jubilee line is working normally from Waterloo to Canning Town and it seems the DLR branch to Woolwich Arsenal from Canning Town is working fine tomorrow.

Hi All, I'm open to hearing of any recommendations for good pubs near Cutty Sark DLR or Greenwich station? This is a large group so a spacious pub which is not too busy by 1pm/2pm is preferable over the smaller pubs. Anyone recommend The Cutty Sark pub on Ballast Quay for me to investigate? Seems big and with character. http://www.cuttysarkse10.co.uk/

Hi Tania, the Cutty Sark is a nice pub, but so is the Trafalgar which is even closer to Greenwich and is also on the Thames.
