Charles Dickens walk - Temple tube to Holborn tube

This is a 5 mile walk through the Inns of Court, Holborn and Bloomsbury area. This is not a walk to bring dogs as the Inns of Court are private property.

Some of these legal buildings survived the Great Fire of London and are like a village. Here we walk into Dickensian London, especially in his novel Martin Chuzzlewit.

Meet outside Temple tube at 1pm. We start promptly, so do plan your journey! Please click here for the Transport for London Journey planner

PS: The walk will be cancelled if the weather suddenly turns bad or there are less than 10 people signed up.

Good walk. The City was very quiet. It was a pity so much was closed.

Just discovered at the station that there is a 90 - minute delay due to a "person hit by a train" between Broxbourne and Cheshunt". Too late to take any other route and get there in time, annoyingly. Sorry - and hope you all have a good day, sure you will weather looks ideal. Grhhhh.

No District and Circle trains from Aldgate onwards, meant I arrived too late to join the walk. Really frustrated by this.

A really great walk and good company. Thanks Tania. My only suggestion is an extra 10-15 at the half way break would have been good to allow a little more leisurely eating time!

Circle and District lines are closed between Gloucester Road and Aldgate. This walk is still going ahead from Temple tube at 1pm. The nearest stations to Temple are Holborn and Charing Cross. I've sent out an email around noon on Friday with directions to all attendees. Please update your RSVP if you can no longer make the walk. I will no longer have internet access before the walk starts. My number is 07973570043. The weather is set to be good. See you tomorrow!

It would appear that there are no District and Circle lines stopping at Temple underground this week end.
Does anyone have any other ideas of getting to Temple tube tomorrow??

Embankment or Charing Cross are quite near - just walk along the Thames from the former, or down to, and along the Thames (turning left at the river) from the latter, and in either case less than ten minutes.

Hi, roughly how long will the walk/tour be? Will there be a guide who tells us all about the interesting bits?! Thanks. This will be my first walk with the group :o

    May 19, 2014

    • Tanya D

Hi Irene, this is just a walk, not a guided tour with commentary. The walk should be approximately 2 and a half hours.
