Mindful of the fact that marathon walks are perhaps not to everyone's taste (o ye of little faith and tired ankles), I thought I'd throw in a sneaky, cheeky, more relaxed one. Not totally relaxed, mind. Starting at Kintbury on the Kennet & Avon Canal and ending at Bedwyn on the Kennet & Avon Canal, it will most definitely not follow the Kennet & Avon Canal, except for little bits, but string a bow at a venture some 14 miles (22 km) to the Berkshire, Wiltshire and sometimes even confusingly Hampshire Downs southwards.
So expect at least one steep climb, to be rewarded with fine views of Berkshire, Wiltshire and sometimes even Hampshire below - perhaps even with a picturesquely arranged sheep or two.
The inevitable pub stops are naturally included, including for lunch, if all goes aright, the lovely Swan Inn at Inkpen, selling only - be still, your beating Islington-type hearts - organic, locally sourced free-range type stuff http://www.theswaninn-organics.co.uk/
It'll be lovely if it doesn't rain, and perhaps even then. As ever, I will arrange group train tickets on the day once we are all assembled. Marvellous - see you there.
