Viogner & Tannat Tasting at Christos' House

Viognier and Tannat - these are 2 grapes varieties which are not related but both interesting in their own way. Viognier produces aromatic whites often with distinctive aromas of apricot, whilst Tannat produces big, beefy reds with high levels of tannin (hence its name!). For this tasting I have lined up a fascinating array of countries (particularly for the Tannats) to demonstrate the styles of wines which these 2 grape varieties produce.

There will be Viogniers from Chile, Australia, California, Greece as well as from it's spritual home of Condrieu in the Northern Rhone. Tannat grows particularly well in South America and there will be wines from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and one from its spritual home of Madiran in South-West France.

To finish I have found a Late Harvest Viognier and in all there will be enough wine to give 3/4 bottle per head.

During the tasting plenty of bread, fine cheeses, pates and other nibbles will be served to soak up the alcohol.

Cheers,

Christos

Great idea, thanks Christos. Good opportunity to pin down characteristics of grapes which I don't tend to drink often. Though if buying Tannat blind I'd probably look for a dash of Merlot in it :)

Would have loved to attend this event - two of my favourite grapes `Viognier and Tannat - but currently in the Loire Valley so will sadly miss this.
