This is a unique and unrepeatable tasting of Burgundy wines from the exceptional 2009 vintage. I have called it a 'Masterclass' because all the wines come from one vintage; all of the very high quality 4 whites come from the appellation of Chassagne Montrachet including 2 premier crus; and the 6 reds come from 2 producers (including 2 different 1er cru from one village). This line-up will will give a fascinating insight into the effect of terroir - which is probably more important in Burgundy than any other wine region of the world.
We will start with a magnum of Cremant de Bourgogne (sparkling wine made by the champagne method in the Burgundy region) and then the line up of wines will be as follows:
Chassagne Montrachet, Bachey Legros
Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru 'Morgeot' Vielles Vignes, Bachey Legros
Chassagne Montrachet 'Les Charrieres', Rene Lequin-Colin
Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru 'Les Chenevottes', Jean-Marc Pillot
Maranges Vielles Vignes, Bachey Legros
Savigny Les Beaunes 1er cru 'Les Serpentieres', Jean Jacques Girard
Pernand Vergelesses 1er cru 'Les Fichots', Jean Jacques Girard
Pernand Vergelesses 1er cru 'Les Vergelesses', Jean Jacques Girard
Volnay Vielles Vignes, Jean Jean Jacques Girard
Chassagne Montrachet 'Les Plantes Momieres' Vielles Vignes, Bachey Legros
This tasting will be seated around one table and limited to 12 people, so there will be a bottle of fine wine per head. Canapes will be served with the Cremant and a selection of fine cheeses, pates, bread and other food will be served after the tasting. The cost of this exceptional tasting is just £42.50 which is probably around half what a commercial wine merchant would charge.
