Rioja is one of the most famous wine regions in the world and has been seducing wine lovers for centuries with its delicious, silky wines. Tucked away in the North-East corner of Spain on the edge of the Basque country this fascinating region is a treasure trove for fine wines, gourmet food, and charming towns.
During this long weekend trip we will be staying in a delightful 4 star hotel in the bustling town of Logrono for 3 nights, and during our 4 days will be visiting a variety of wineries to discover the range of styles that the region can offer. Our shortlist of bodegas includes: Campo Viejo, C.V.N.E., Dinastía Vivanco, Faustino, Finca Allende, Lopez de Heredia, Marqués de Riscal, Muga, La Rioja Alta, Palacio, Roda and Ysios.
The tour has been timed to take full advantage of the only direct flights from the UK to Bilbao, the nearest airport to Rioja. A coach will be waiting for us at Bilbao airport to meet Easyjet flight 3223 which departs London Stanstead on 19th April at 10.10 and arrives at Bilbao at 13.10. The return flight 3228 on 22nd April departs Bilbao 21.50 arriving back into Stanstead at 22.40. You will need to book your own flights.
The tour includes:-
Travel by executive coach in the Rioja region including pick-up from and return to Bilbao airport
3 nights accommodation with buffet breakfast at the 4-star Hotel NH Herencia Rioja in the centre of Logrono, just 5 minutes walk to the pedestrianised old town which is full of restaurants and bars, see: http://www.nh-hotels.com/nh/en/hotels/spain/logrono/nh-herencia-rioja.html
7 winery visits/wine tastings
4 lunches with wine
The services of a Spanish wine specialist
The services of a Spanish-speaking tour guide
The cost is £650 based on sharing a room with a single supplement of £125. Flights are NOT included.
A note about meals in Spain: people eat LATE! After a leisurely breakfast each morning, we will have a late lunch around 2 pm at a winery which is included in the programme. Generally restaurants do not even open before 9pm for dinner so we have left the evenings free for you to explore the many restaurants and bars of Logrono (or not if you don’t want to eat late). The hotel also has its own restaurant but this also does not open until 9pm.
You may like to extend your trip and stay in Bilbao to see the Guggenheim museum and other sites. If you stay on after the end of the tour the coach may be able to drop you in the centre of Bilbao after it has taken the group to the airport. If you arrive in Bilbao before the tour begins you will need to make your own way to the airport in time to meet Easyjet flight 3223 on 19th April.
If you would like to join this tour RSVP on the Meetup site and send an email to Christos at [masked] to request a booking form.
Here are more details of the itinerary (winery visits to be confirmed) which you can also see on the Wine Voyages website: http://winevoyages.co.uk/wine-tours-rioja.htm
