Dear Spiters.
Congratulations everybody - thanks to your support our group has 6o members! Woohoo! That will translate into some seriously good times and creativity!
I look forward to seeing everyone who can make it on the 14th February - numbers going well, but we can squeeze a few more of you and your friends in. So spread the word!
I have been asked if we can do anything prior, just to get to know everyone a bit better, and I was considering an informal lecture/chat on the business of publishing, as I am frequently asked about this.
So if topics such as: "self-publishing as an option - yes/no" ... "agents - do I need one/how do I get one" ... "what is a vanity publisher and how do I spot one pretending to be legit (you KNOW who you are! Tsk)" ... "the best way to approach a publisher" ... "the value of 'contests' and who they really benefit" ... and much more are of interest to you, if you could just signify interest and I will confirm the meetup and venue.
We don't need as lot of people along to this to make it happen, but the more the merrier. If numbers are good I will also try and arrange other guest speakers, as well as my opinionated self! :):) If there's only a few we could perhaps make it even less formal in a pub somewhere, or the like.
See my blog for information on the kind of approach that worked for me, and what I learned along the way http://thefantasynovelist.wordpress.com/2011/08/25/orb-entertainment-the-future-of-entertainment/
As ever, charging arrangements (to cover basic costs), if any, are minimal and depend on numbers and venue.
Let me know your thoughts, and I will get arranging!
Update 30/01/12. Due to the number of people I have fortunetely secured gallery space at Arbeit (same venue as the 14th) as it is a great venue and a good central location. Tickets are £3 on the door, and, as ever, this is to help cover costs. I realise these details have been confirmed late and if anyone is not sure about any aspect of them please email me directly and we can chat.
Look forward to seeing you all then.
Regards,
Rick
