Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak

WINTER IS HERE and this lengthy title should keep us warm and cozy !!! 704 pages !!!

First published in Italy in 1957 amid international controversy, Doctor Zhivago is the story of the life and loves of a poet/physician during the turmoil of the Russian
Revolution. Taking his family from Moscow to what he hopes will be shelter in
the Ural Mountains, Zhivago finds himself instead embroiled in the battle
between the Whites and the Reds. Set against this backdrop of cruelty and strife
is Zhivago's love for the tender and beautiful Lara, the very embodiment of the
pain and chaos of those cataclysmic times. Pevear and Volokhonsky masterfully
restore the spirit of Pasternak's original—his style, rhythms, voicings, and
tone—in this beautiful translation of a classic of world
literature.

( Please use the latest translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky if possible but than again we probably won't split hairs on text translation )                                                     Boris Pasternak

Don't forget this lovely 1965 adaptation of the novel now on DVD

I'm not going to be able to attend this one. By this point, we will have had two staff leave and I have one on vacation this week. I will likely have a new staff member working with me that night, but I can't leave them on the desk by themselves. You guys still have the room reserved, so you are more than welcome to still have the book discussion. I will even look up questions for you guys if you want me to. Just let me know. :)
