Dune by Frank Herbert

Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Discussion

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family--and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what it undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

Have to cancel since I have a scheduling conflict with another meetup group and the distance is too great to make both.

We will be reading the first book in the series, which I believe is called just Dune. We have at least seven copies of the book available in the library system, just fyi :-)

Which book is it? It seems to be a long series. :)

I thought I might try something new: a Saturday time slot with a focus on science fiction and fantasy books. I can't wait to get caught up on some classics and try out some recent award winners. Hopefully others will feel the same!
