All The Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren

Set in the 1930s, this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel traces the rise and fall of Willie Stark, who resembles the real-life Huey "Kingfish" Long of Louisiana. Stark begins his political career as an idealistic man of the people but soon becomes corrupted by success. Generally considered the finest novel ever written on American politics, All the King's Men is a literary classic.

A novel of the life and times of a Southern demagogue.

Yes, I'm coming, David. If the meeting happened to be Wed. the 13th, I'd be in trouble. But, I'm good for tomorrow, the 14th. Looking forward to discussing this book.

I just wanted to say I love Robert Penn Warren and the Southern writers of that period. They reflect the struggle between traditional and modernistic values, the break of the old south and the new south with all it's prejudices and rules of gentility and progression to become a contemporary American society.

We have this on our calendar at the library on Thursday, Nov. 14th at 6. Is it cool if we change this to that night? Meagan doesn't usually work on Wed. nights and I'm not likely to read BOTH books in November.

I am probably going to cancel even though I am a big fan of the late Robert Penn Warren... he's from Guthrie, Ky and the 1st US National poet....however Tues and Thurs are bad for me now starting in November. I will read it but probably can't make the meetup.... If you like this one try World Enough and Time....
