The second “Raw Second Tuesday” Raw evening at the Green Owl on Tuesday, March 9

  • March 9, 2010 · 6:00 PM

This will be our group’s second “Raw Second Tuesday” dining event at the Green Owl. While the Green Owl is making the effort to provide raw dining here in Madison on the second Tuesday of each month, our group will continue to coordinate with and support them as one of our monthly raw events.

Here are the raw menu items that the Green Owl will be offering:

Appetizer: curry pate with vegetables (jicama, romaine lettuce, zucchini, carrots): $8 Entree: nut and veggie loaf with raw barbeque sauce, cauliflower mash with miso gravy and marinated kale: $14

Dessert: raw apple crisp with coconut-vanilla sorbet: $7

Dinner Reservations: please RSVP as you normally would via this Meetup description and this will serve as a sort of “dinner reservation.” I would ask that everyone be very conscientious about their RSVP'ing. If you have planned to come but find that you won't be able to join us after all, please update your RSVP accordingly as soon as possible. Also, as we did last time, please indicate in the comment section of your RSVP which of the menu items you plan on ordering. This will be very important so that we can give The Green Owl a good estimate as to how many people to expect which will then allow them to do their purchasing and preparation in advance in accordance with this estimate. The Green Owl will be setting tables aside for our group in the back of the restaurant and would like to be able to plan for this as well. With all of this in mind, members will not have the ability to RSVP "maybe" for this particular event.

Payment: after discussing our first official raw group event with Jennie, we both felt it all went well, but one area we agreed we could coordinate better on in the future was when it came time to pay. Last time our server, Elyse, was very accommodating and did a heroic job of managing our group bill while we payed as individuals. As a result, Jennie and I came up with the following guidelines for collaborating on payment for future events: first, we strongly encourage everyone to pay by cash or check. Secondly, we also encourage everyone to pay as a group at the same time, and if you have to leave early and that is not possible, please leave your payment with another group member. Typically restaurants do not allow groups of our size to have separate checks for individuals and we want to work with the Green Owl on this matter. We would like to continue to keep this event as informal and relaxed as possible (another option that I would prefer not doing would be to set up payment only through PayPal and if you changed your mind about attending at the last minute, you would then forfeit your payment, as is the case with the The Madison Area Vegetarian Meetup Group). Also, please keep in mind that the Green Owl automatically adds an 18% gratuity to all checks for groups of our size, in addition to the 5.5% sales tax; as you make your menu choice and post them in your RSVP, know that your all-inclusive total prices (which include the tax and gratuity) will be as follows: $9.88 for the appetizer, $ 17.29 for the entree, $ $8.65 for the dessert.

Their regular vegan and vegetarian menu, of course, will be available too for anyone who wants to bring anyone whose tastes might not necessarily be along the raw lines.

Have a wonderful time! I unfortunately won’t be able to join you this time.

Cheers!

David

While the address is listed officially as 1970 Atwood Avenue at Schenk’s Corners in their information, The Green Owl is next to The Alchemy on Winnebago, kind of across the way from Tex Tubb's - just look for the Green Owl sitting on the branch on the front outside.

There is plenty of street parking in the neighborhood, some metered, some not.
