As some of you may know by now, Laura and I will be moving to Northern Indiana in the coming weeks to be closer to my parents who are in their 80’s and are in need of more support at this stage of their lives (not to worry - they have a vibrant raw potluck community there too!). As a result, I will need to step back from my role as the primary organizer of the Madison Raw Foods Potluck Meetup group that I began in February of 2009.
I have very much enjoyed my experience with the potluck over the past three and a half years. A few weeks ago, the potluck group recently reached the milestone of going over the three hundred member mark. With the potluck group in Madison continuing to grow and evolve, it is very important to me to ensure that the group will continue to thrive, even after I’ve left the area.
To that end, I am pleased that one of our members who recently joined our group, Ryan Kummerow, has agreed to take over as the primary organizer for our group. Ryan is a Wisconsin native who recently moved to Madison and has become one of the newest members of the grocery team at our local Whole Foods Market. His interest in the raw food lifestyle took shape over the past two years when he lived in Phoenix, AZ, where he was an active member of Arizona's Raw Food Meetup. Ryan's educational background includes an Associate degree in Marketing and a Bachelor of Science in Staff Ministry, both of which he believes will help him in his role as organizer. Ryan will be able to use his past experience as an event promoter and team builder to create fun, inspiring, and informative events for the raw food enthusiasts in Madison and beyond. As you can see, I believe that I will be leaving our potluck group in capable hands. I will stay on as an assistant organizer in the interim to ensure a smooth transition and be able to help Ryan with technical aspects of using our group’s Meetup site. Combined with Brian, Ingrid, and Aubree’s commitment to continue to host our group in their spaces, I feel that I will be leaving our potluck group well-equipped to move forward into the future.
So please join me in welcoming Ryan into his new position with our group. From here on out, any questions you might have regarding the group can be addressed to him.
Thank you all for all the great times, great friendship, and great food. The many times we’ve come together for our potlucks will remain some of my favorite memories of my years in Madison.
