- and what follows is a brief summary:
We will again be enjoying the use of the space at Wussow Chiropractic for a second "Dinner & A Movie" Film Night & Raw Potluck on Monday, February 22nd, from 5:30 until 9 PM.
We will be screening the movie "King Corn," a feature documentary about ?two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation. In King Corn, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland to learn where their food comes from. With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America's most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil. But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how we eat - and how we farm.?
Please RSVP as you normally would via this Meetup description. Depending on the combined response of both groups, we may need to limit the number of those who RSVP and attend. Currently we will have up to 20 spots available for our group, with 10 available for Dr. Brian's group. There will be an automatic waiting list set up for those who RSVP after the initial 20 who respond. If closer to the time we see that we will be able to accommodate more attendees from our group, then we will raise the number of those who can RSVP. Check back here on the description for this Meetup for the latest details regarding these limitations to group size.
I also ask that everyone be very conscientious about their RSVP'ing. If you have planned to come but find that you won't be able to join us after all, please update your RSVP accordingly, so that others who may be on the waiting list will be able to join us.
More details about the movie:
?In a nation awash in high-fructose corn syrup and fast-food meat, it?s hard to imagine that there isn?t some sinister thinking at work. America?s food system has indeed been hijacked by an industrial model that rewards all-out production and unhealthy consumption. But we got to this place not by any backroom dealings or evil ideas, but by following a good idea to its logical extreme. To a generation of policymakers who grew up in the Great Depression, cheap and abundant food seemed like it could only be a good thing. But there can be too much of a good thing, and today we have a nation awash in obesity and diabetes and a farm system that tells us always to grow more corn. We can change that system as quickly as we created it; we just have to find the political will to do so.?
Hope you can join us,
