Do you live in the City of Port Phillip? Do you want to help increase community resilience to extreme weather events? Then we would love to hear from you.
The City of Port Phillip has recently launched their "Weather Ready" program and is now inviting residents to be trained as “Weather Ready” mentors.
The frequency of extreme weather events is expected to increase in the future. We are looking for residents to help neighbours cope with flooding, storms and heatwaves.
Who are Weather Ready mentors? They are people who talk to their neighbours and want to help their street or apartment block prepare for more extreme weather.
Weather Ready aims to help the Port Phillip community prepare for more extreme weather – like floods, storms and heatwaves. It operates in a similar way to Neighbourhood Watch – neighbours looking out for each other and being prepared.
Mentors will receive free training as well as materials to support them and their neighbours.
Training will run over two days – 19 and 26 October 2013 and is for City of Port Phillip residents only.
Weather Ready is a great opportunity
•to learn about climate change and its impact on extreme weather where you live,
•to increase your confidence and facilitation skills,
•to meet your neighbours,
•to have fun!
To register your interest, email [masked] before 4 October 2013.
