Everyone knows about the Hindi film industry and Bollywood.

But have you heard about Southern masala movies? Big burly heroes, terrible villains, beautiful heroines, weddings, scary dads, EXCELLENT dancing, amazing fight choreography, exciting stories, crazy comedy tracks, WONDERFUL songs, everything bright, blazing in MEGA TECHNICOLOUR and revved up to 11!

Also, film industries in other regions often produce beautiful films, like last year's Marathi Harishchandrachi Factory, but which are overshadowed by releases by the bigger industries or never even reach our shores outside of film festivals.

Did you know that Telugu and Tamil movies, and occasionally movies from other regions in India are frequently screened in Melbourne? Have you ever had the experience of seeing a modern Indian movie in the cinema with a crowd of happy movie fans? The excitement and energy level of the audience as the hero is revealed is something you'll NEVER experience in your average Melbourne cinema!

This group is intended to encourage more people to try South Indian and other regional Indian movies. We will go watch new regional Indian releases and film festivals when they're on, and talk about the experience, and spread the word!

Bollywood film fanatics, Aussies, desis, videsis and pardesis, anyone who loves seeing entertaining Indian movies outside the Hindi-speaking realm, and discussing them should definitely join us!

NOTE: Don't forget to bring a sense of humour and adventure! Many of the movies we see are targeted to the Non-Resident Indian market, so do not have subtitles! You need to let go of your need to know exactly what's going on, and rely on visual cues, the logic of the story arc (where present :)) and the talent of the actors to carry you through! :D A bit of research on the web beforehand about the plot, the actors and the moviemakers' previous work can also help.

(We love Hindi movies too, but there are at least two Meetup groups in Melbourne that go to Hindi movies on a regular basis)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
