Melbourne has a number of beautiful bridges crossing the Yarra River. We're going to try to capture them at their finest, during golden hour.
We're meeting at the northern side of Princes Bridge, which is the St Kilda Road bridge at Flinders Street Station. The sun will be coming from the downstream/Crown Casino direction, so the eastern side of the bridge will be basked in beautiful afternoon light. There's good shooting down at water level on both sides of the river, and also from on top of the bridge towards the MCG.
We'll head along in front of Southgate and cross the river again on the Southgate Footbridge. The railings of the bridge are adorned with padlocks signifying commitment, which make for some interesting motifs. They might well be a perfect excuse to learn about focus stacking in your post production.
We cross the river again almost immediately along the Sandridge Bridge, which is an old rail bridge. Today it has a number of large metal sculptures.
We'll keep walking along Southbank, past the casino and down to the Polly Woodside sailing ship. The seafarers bridge is an interesting one there, with its large metal spans. The ship might also be worth a few shots.
Our final bridge will be the much photographed Webb Bridge, just west of Wurunjeri Way. By this time we should be well and truly in blue hour, which suits Webb Bridge just fine.
If the mood takes us we can head up to a car park roof in Siddeley Street, just next to the World Trade Centre, and take some elevated shots. Maybe some light trails from the road below. Another options is to try to capture the light reflections in the Yarra as we head back up towards Southgate. Maybe we can catch the flame towers at Crown Casino. Finish off with a quick drink somewhere around Southgate. It's a school night after all.
Beth has already indicated that she is snowed under this month and will not be able to lead us on this event. So look out for me instead. I'll keep the event page updated during the course of the afternoon/evening of our location, so download the app and know where we are! Looking forward to seeing lots of you there.
