Italian Masterpieces from Spain

Holy smokes this is going to be HUGE!! A blend of winter and art inspiration to feed the creative soul is sometimes the magic we need for our photography.

The holdings of Italian art in the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid are unique and unrivalled in museums outside Italy.  Drawn from its magnificent collection, this exhibition of over 70 paintings and 30 drawings presents a rich selection of works spanning 300 years of Italian art, from the early sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.

More than 70 artists are represented including Raphael, Correggio, Titian, Tintoretto, the Carracci, Poussin and Tiepolo.  The exhibition reflects the taste of the Spanish Royal Court whose Kings and Courtiers avidly collected Italian art.  Successive rulers also commissioned works directly from the artists in Italy or enticed them to Spain to work in the Royal Household.  Many of these works are at the heart of the Prado’s collection and have never before left Spain.

Might head to Young and Jackson's for a brew after, when you're ready.

Hi everyone we have gone inside - look for the light in each painting and try to figure out what the artist is trying to say in each painting by way of how they have painted the light itself. Enjoy!

And r we allowed to photograph the paintings?

NGV photography policy... Basically it says yes, but no flash or tripod and with "hand-held" cameras only. I can hand hold my DSLR, so I guess it's OK ;)

I should've added that the above applies to "non-restricted areas" only, otherwise photography is off limits. I rang the NGV and confirmed that the Italian Masterpieces exhibit is definitely restricted, no photography allowed. iPhone bandits shoot at your own risk!

Sorry, but this is my 'off' week financially and I can't afford the $22 (even with my concession card) to the exhibition. I'll go another time, as I want to see it anyway.

Hi everyone this exhibition has been running for a while. I suggest you come early (before 2:30) to buy your ticket - then come meet the faces outside at the water wall at 2:30. Then you will avoid waiting in our line which with about 60 rsvp'd means we will be a group of about 30-40. I won't be making a booking as meet up rsvps are unreliable.

The focus for this visit is not to photograph artworks but to take inspiration - more on how to do this on Sunday when we meet and I'll have a little task for you to do :)

Please refer to the NGV website for information about photography I believe with temporary exhibitions it is not permitted at all, period. I will not be bringing my camera on Sunday. Instead, why not bring a notepad and pen.

I'm super pumped about this exhibition and hope you are too!

Go to Young and Jackson's at the corner Swanston and Flinders street afterwards if you feel like a brew and a chat (when you're ready). Head upstairs to the level where the Chloe painting is.

With such a big exhibition it will be important to make a booking so we don't have to stand in line for 2 hours to get in!
