I am an advanced practice nurse psychotherapist (and mom) with a particular interest in women's reproductive mental health issues. I specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that occur during pregnancy and after childbirth.
I know that women who are depressed and/or anxious during this time in their lives feel very isolated and alone...maybe even crazy!
There is no need for this. This is not a psychotherapy group. Instead, I want to create an atmosphere of unconditional support and understanding. Even though I don't intend to present a formal agenda, I also want to provide education about perinatal mood disorders for group participants. We'll talk about stress and coping, communication, common feelings and experiences, couple and family dynamics, and how to stay two when "baby makes three".
I'm hoping humor and fun can also be a big part of this group. It's very healthy to learn to laugh at ourselves and the situations around us.
This is for women who are pregnant or postpartum (first year only) and feeling depressed and/or anxious or overwhelmed. It is NOT for women who are psychotic (hearing or seeing things or out of touch from reality) or actively suicidal.
Remember...you are not alone, this is not your fault, and you will get better!
