Permaculture Miami Design Course Oct. - Nov 2013 Weekends Only

Permaculture Design course in South Florida is October 12th – November 16th, 2013. This is a Fully accredited 72hour Permaculture design course (PDC). 


This course will be newly developed into 6 weekend intensive classes.

Nov. 09-10 ECHO Farms Permaculture Weekend Intensive - Practical skills sets for a Sustainable Future

Nov. 16-17 Mastering a Design Plan (Full course students only)

Special guest teacher is Toby Hemengway:


Toby Hemenway is the author of Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, which for the last seven years has been the best-selling permaculture book in the world. He has been an adjunct professor at Portland State University, Scholar-in-Residence at Pacific University, and is currently a field director at the Permaculture Institute (USA). Toby has presented lectures and workshops at major sustainability conferences such as Bioneers, SolFest, and EcoFarm, and at Duke University, Tufts University, University of Minnesota, University of Delaware and many other educational venues. His writing has appeared in magazines such as Whole Earth Review, Natural Home, and Kitchen Gardener. He has contributed book chapters for WorldWatch Institute and to several publications on ecological design.


Marcus (Déva) is the founder and lead teacher (specializing in adult learning) with Permaculture Miami- generating sustainable designs and new designers since 2008 throughout south Florida and the world. He has produced many permaculture design projects and has lead countless workshops, events, courses and retreats in India, Thailand and Australia to Colombia, England, Spain, Scotland, Costa Rica and throughout the US. He has written over 30 blogs on his experience (in preparation for a book release) and has several articles written about him in the New Times, Natural Awakenings as well as TV/Radio interviews about his accomplishments in Miami and abroad. With hundreds of his students now expanding permaculture in our world, Marcus aims to integrate more centers for sustainable living branding Permaculture as a significant solution in today’s Re-generation!

Each weekend intensive is $220. $190 if paid in advance and can also be paid on our payment page. Classes begin at 9am on Saturday Morning and finish around 5:30pm with some breaks and lunch in between.

This weekend we will get to know one another, build relationships of truth, compassion and awareness of ourselves and the world around us. Get to know Permaculture Ethical underpinnings and Principles which guide us beyond sustainability. Learn a great deal about Water and Ecology, whats happening around the world and How Permaculture provides solutions! There will be hands-on activities (Learn how to Compost!), interactive games, group discussions and fun! 


Oct.. 19-20 Advance Skills in Pattern Understanding Intensive – Learning how to Harmonize with Nature

This weekend will deepen our understanding of how the elements in our world work. By enhancing our understanding of Climates and Microclimates we can successfully produce appropriate design for improving the Soil, windbreaks, 'Patterning' nature to harmonize and integrate with her. Learn the many patterns that give way to viable solutions. Hands-on Soil testing, Videos, Plant propagation/seeding techniques, site analysis for excellent designs and a visit to a natural forest are included in this weekend 


Oct. 26-27 Fruit and Spice Park and Fairchild Tropical Gardens Tour: A Permaculture Perspective

[ Will take Place in South Miami/Homestead]


This will be a fantastic Learning experience surrounded by the beauty of these two most wonderful Parks. Much visual experience learning directly through observation and interaction as we guide your understanding of taking the next step to enhance the functions of Planting with systems design - zones and sectors, Permaculture gardening\farming, food forestry, Sustainable homes designs, Timber/bamboo production, Animal Husbandry, and a lovely trip to the Everglades! 


Nov. 02-03 Urban Permaculture Intensive with Toby Hemenway(Author of Gaia’s Garden): Grow success - Socially, Economically and Ecologically!

How can we create resilient, regenerative cities and suburbs? Permaculture, an ecological approach to design, shows us how. Though land may be limited, cities are rich in other resources, especially social capital. This workshop will show how to find, harvest, and integrate the many resources in our cities in sustainable ways.


Nov. 09-10 ECHO Farms Permaculture Weekend Intensive - Practical skills sets for a Sustainable Future

ECHO Farms is an amazing Demonstration site of sustainable methods to live on this earth around the world. Learn hands on techniques from the Staff at ECHO while diving in deep with Permaculture experts from around Florida. Classes will included Urban gardening, Appropriate technologies, Aquaculture systems, Integrated Pest Management, Sustainable living methods worldwide, Designing for Disasters and a host of other amazing solutions for our future!

Nov. 16-17 Mastering a Design Plan (Full course students only)

This weekend will be developing an actual design with groups focusing on graduating the PDC. Classes will included some inspiring videos, Eco-village design and some hands-on activities.
