Guys, that +1 mithral breastplate is back in the group loot: Goruza can't use it after all. Damned shame, too.

I think we all need to be real clear about the general rules we will abide by; thus my post re: clarification of said rules and errarta from paizo forum. Specifically that comes to mind, the dc to craft is only 5+cl of items as named specifically in core material. Taking 10 on the roll. Cl is not a requirement unless specifically stated in the requirement section. I would like to compile a doc that specifies the rules which we are all kosher with using. Ill keep it on hand for reference in game. All design happens in between sessions. Ill make full 4x6 item cards and can even continue to embellish items that continue to get upgrades with badass effects.

As always im fine with dm bonuses but we should probably talk about the scope of this before piking on. Especially with how mundane the spell craft dc for crafting seems ti be.

Hey Matt, back in the day of 3.0, Weapon Focus could be purchased for touch spells. They aren't explicitly listed as a valid option these days, but ray spells are, so clearly it's intended to be used for spells; do you think touch spells fall under the heading of unarmed strikes for these purposes?

I am making a definitive declaration for the remainder of this campaign: Spivey is not going to be a DM controlled Healbot. This is a six person party. You should be able to manage either one character with major heals or multiple characters with minor healing abilities.

However... Level 7 will be coming by the end of this adventure. Anyone in the party could consider taking the Leadership feat and attracting a cleric cohort. Fair warning... there are undead in your future.

That's cool dude. I'm busy at work too. I'm bouncing back and forth constantly.

Sounds good to me. We can figure something out.

I've cleaned up the thread below because that wasn't the way I should have approached this. I've got a habit of defaulting to a passive-aggressive state at times. I need to stop that. So, I apologize.

As the GM for this group, certain things fall into my realm of responsibility. Controlling the table is one of them. Outside distractions are not in my realm of control. Inside distractions can be controlled by myself and by the group. We all use smartphones to pull information. I was using it to access NPC stats for the monk I used last session. I have no problems with that. But I would like to institute a rule that an social media applications be kept to breaks only. If a text or phone call requires your attention, hold up your phone, nod towards the door, and take it out of the room. ALL OF US need to be better about getting focused and getting things moving when we convene. I would like to start playing no later than 5pm each session.

Also I think that youve been doing a great job as a GM, Matt. Even if we are a little slow, I'm still having a lot of fun. I think you're keeping the campaign interesting. I'm looking forward to continuing.

Ok boys and girl...... I've been doing some thinking and after the conversation between Matt, Jim, Jarrod and I last Saturday, I have decided to chuck my back up. The Ninja/Ranger idea is a good one, but kind of redundant with Alyssa going full Ninja and Goruza with a bit of rogue in his path. Having another one would just add to the confusion of the roles within the party. What I need from you all is an idea of what you think the best path to go with a character if Wulfgar falls. I can go monk for the speed and offensive combat abilities, build another armored tank, maybe barbarian armored hulk or the like, or I can look healer/spell caster to add to the magic pool of the party.

I’d like to have the idea down on paper for this week’s game if possible so I thought I’d throw it out there for discussion. I know the ultimate choice will be mine, but I’d like input from everyone since this is a group effort.

I'm not sure I can help here, because Wulfgar is just plain not going to be the first character to die. Unless he gets hit by some effect that causes death without regard to hit points, other characters will die before him, which, if those players stay in the game, means the party roster will be different by the time you need a replacement character, so I don't know how to predict what we'll need based on the group that doesn't exist yet. I say write down a few ideas and call it good. For instance, we don't have any kind of ranged specialist, nor a dedicated healer, nor anyone who can communicate with creatures other than those who speak Common, so maybe cobble up three ideas based on that?

Something different? A polearm / naginata wielder?

Thinking about trading craft magical tattoo for wonderous items. Too expensive given the gold flow thus far. 9k for a 2nd lvl spell, non-slotted, versus at least half for a similar effect. Wanted them for the yakuza flavor but... thoughts?

    July 7, 2013

    • Jerrod

I say go with wondrous item, Etsuo and Wulfgar will probably love Goon Wan long time if we get some Belts of Strength.

I look forward to creating magic item cards for such things that I am able to create with craft wonderous item. Should be gimptastic.

So to answer Matt's last subject question with a more in game answer (and to move the flow of topic to another direction), Etsuo is depressed his father's sword was destroyed by someone he never even had the chance to learn the name of. This will be causing him some eternal grief and frustration about his role as a samurai. (It also gave me a great way in game of taking him away from the class and into another). Everyone will probably see a massive change in attitude with Etsuo as he starts to question his worth and purpose. Anyone else have an in character existential meltdown after the last fight what with killing a former party member and all? I'm curious to know what happened to Carvun.

Matt kind of touched on my thought process. I have at least two more levels before I can hit stalwart defender so a touch of barbarian to give me that rage ability when it absolutely needs to be used would make sense. I could take one level of barbarian and then focus on using the rage as a "last resort" type thing. That or if Matt would allow I could write up a proposal for a sub-racial (ulfin) feat that would allow for such a touch of barbaric rage without having to slip down the path of the barbarian outright.

      July 3, 2013

    • Jerrod

There is a feat or a trait that provides a limited form of Rage for a character. It is just a round or something. I'll look through my books with traits in it but I can't remember if it is a feat or trait.
Now what to come is purely a mechanical aspect:
My worry about that one level of barbarian is that rage isn't going to be much if you aren't taking levels to up the ability. Your Stalwart Defender is going to provide a better Rage mechanic. Also, the first level barbarian will get Rage and Fast Movement but you can't benefit from Fast Movement in heavy armor. You would a better benefit to stick with Fighter, get your feats or bonuses from it. If you want to take a level for roleplay benefit then that is a different thing all together, I just don't really see a point to it personally.

seriously I think this was a good discussion and one that may have been needed, I just don't have the insight to the history of the game that you guys do. I played ed 1 and red box D&D and some AD&D between the ages of 12 and 15 but never got serious since I had no way to play on a regular basis. I simply don't feel qualified to speak on such matters.

Hey Alyssa, I didn't give you -bad- advice when I suggested you go Two-Weapon Fighting, but I might not have made you aware of all its limitations, so let me fix that.

Two-weapon fighting doesn't mix well with feinting. Feinting only affects the next attack you make against your target, so the second attack will -not- get sneak attack damage. Also, even with your feat, feinting is a move action, and you can't take a full move action when making two attacks per round; you can only take a five-foot step, so you can't feint and attack with both weapons in the same round. This also means it will be hard to use Stealth to sneak up on a dude and double-stab him.

If you're okay with all that, then everything's cool as far as I'm concerned. I still think Two-Weapon Fighting is a valid choice; you still get sneak attack damage with both weapons if, say, you're flanking a dude. I just felt like maybe I'd been irresponsible by not mentioning that feinting stuff.

Okay, thanks for the advice guys. When we meet up for the next session I'll try to come earlier so maybe I can talk to whoever is there about what my other options are. There's just so many and I really don't know what to choose, especially being this new to the game. :/

Alyssa shoot me an email with your character info. Stats, skills, feats, and ninja tricks/talents. Or post them in a new thread if you want everyone to chip in. Also give me an idea if you want to specialize in a specifice style of combat or be more versatile.
