Toro Park - Harper Canyon Entrance (~8-10 Miles, ~2,500 Feet)

Unexpectedly had to cancel my Saturday hiking option -- however weather is looking favorable for a Sunday afternoon hike here locally at Toro Park through one of my favorite access points, Harper Canyon.

Trail starts out gentle but gradually increases in slope to a heart-pumping, sweat inducing workout.  Once past the old barn we'll trek across the grassy hills up an insanely steep incline on our way to Ollason Peak.  After a brief stop at Ollason Peak we'll continue on over to Black Mountain where we can rest a bit while enjoying views of the Salinas Valley.

Coming back down we'll hike through Red Tail Canyon on our way back to Harper Canyon and our cars.

Distance is estimated at 8-10 miles with approximately ~2,500 feet of cumulative elevation gain.

This will be STRENUOUS hike!!   Please match your current fitness and conditioning level with the degree of strenuousness that this hike will entail.

A cool, blustery late January day to enjoy a hike here locally at my favorite place in Toro Park. Harper Canyon as an point of entry into Toro Park is by far much better than the main entrance along Hwy 68. So peaceful, rustic, and remote -- thank you all for joining me today. Really enjoyed the hike and company of a great group.

Hi Robert- regretfully I have to cancel due to a project deadline. This looks like such a perfect hike and I hope you do it or similar soon so I can finally join you intrepid hikers :-). Have fun, Alison

Robert, do you have an approximation end time for this hike? I have a meeting at work that I have to attend at 4PM.

John - Not a problem. You can peel away from the group and hike back out to your car at whatever time you feel is best so you can make your afternoon meeting.

Thanks Robert. Always need to ask first :) If we leave on time I might be able to stay with the group. Do you think maybe 3 or 4 hours total? Even if I do bring up the rear. LOL

Hi again, will the meet up be t the end of the road where we climb over the gate?

    January 26, 2013

    • Robert

John - You are correct. We will meet up at the end of Harper Canyon Road where we'll enter Toro Park by climbing over the gate.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
